Edina Real Estate Uplifted by Community Spirit

The City of Edina emerged from a small whirlwind of chaos. It was originally known as Richfield Township, which was primarily settled by Irish immigrants escaping the devastation of Ireland’s potato famine. English and Scottish flowed into the area afterward, and in 1888, the townspeople decided to form their own village.  All of the neighborhoods that make up Edina:

Over the course of many town meetings, a conflict arose around the name for the new village. Should it be Westfield? What about Edina, after Edina Mills? Or how about Hennepin Park? The debate was long, and tension thickened until a committee member motioned to adjourn. Tempers immediately flared, and several committee members threatened to abandon their positions if their opinions were going to be ignored. Finally, order was reached, and a future meeting was scheduled where the committee voted on the name. Edina won by five votes.

The City of Edina is situated in Hennepin County, nine miles southwest of Minneapolis. A number of major highways run through Edina, including Interstate 494, Minnesota State Highways 62, 100, and 62, and U.S. Route 169.  This allows Edina real estate owners, renters, visitors, and commuters to easily travel within the metropolitan area. The city is one of Minnesota’s most affluent cities, which turns Edina homes for sale into hot commodities. 47,941 people call Edina their home.

A handful of large companies provide many jobs to the community. Its top four employers are Jerry’s Enterprises, Fairview Southdale Hospital, Southdale Center, and Edina Public Schools, respectively.
